Natural Remedies for Motion Sickness

Posted by Vikky on November 22, 2008

sea_sick_railing_cartoonIs motion sickness preventing you from enjoying your family vacation, or playing up to that cute girl in the next cabin? Until recently, travelers with sensitive bellies would simply pop a synthetic pill an hour before the trip commences, or paste on a bandaid-type patch behind the ear half a day before the trip.  We also heard of relief bands that send electronic signals to stimulate nerves in the wrist, which interfere with nausea messages enroute to the body.

In this age when natural medicine is seriously becoming a threat to traditional medical doctor’s existence, a number of natural remedies and preventive actions fortunately have proven themselves much more efficient, and almost free.

* Avoid loading up on a heavy meal before you set out on your trip.

* Pick the seat least affected by motion: up front in a car, over a wing on a plane, or midship on a boat.

* Avoid nausea triggers such as alcohol, cigarette smoke, and intense odors, as well as watching movies or reading while on the move.

* Get some air: crack a window, turn on a vent, or get out onto the boat’s deck.

* Aura Cacia Peppermint Essential Oil – take a whiff when there’s motion in the ocean; peppermint’s a time-tested stomach soother ($6).

* Solaray Ginger Root – pop a couple organic ginger capsules to settle your belly ($5).

More of these unorthodox solutions are available from the Ideal Bite, a sassier shade of green an interactive website that pools together strategies and tactics to keep our only earthly home green.  Checkthe site out for reminders and oft-forgotten solutions for derailing stress and cutting down on carbs, choosing the environmentally-friendly rented car, ideal green gifts, and many many more ideas to help us think green, and limit our carbon footprints even while touring the world.
